Memahami Past Perfect Continuous Tense

Sebenarnya Tense ini tidak seribet namanya, serius!

Past artinya, dipakai untuk menyatakan kejadian di masa lampau. Perfect merujuk pada proses yang telah diselesaikan, namun hadirnya Continuous membuat proses itu hanya dimulai dan masih berlangsung, sampai kapan? Sampai di masa sekarang!

PPfCT dipakai untuk menyatakan proses/kejadian yang dimulai di masa lampau dan masih berlangsung sampai di masa kini. 

Jika kamu mulai belajar IELTS sejak beberapa bulan lalu dan masih aktif mempelajarinya sampai sekarang, gunakan Tense ini.

Jika kamu punya personal project yang kamu mulai dari pekan lalu dan belum selesai-selesai juga, gunakan Tense ini.

AFFIRMATIVE FORM

Petunjuknya mudah ditemukan; "Been" pasti butuh ING verb, sebagai penanda keberlanjutan proses yang dimaksudkan. Tense ini juga jauh lebih mudah karena to be tidak berubah-ubah mengikuti subjek.

Contoh:

• I had been waiting for her for an hour before she arrived.
• They had been working on the project all week when the deadline approached.
• She had been studying for the exam for months when she finally took it.
• He had been driving all day when the accident happened.
• We had been talking on the phone for hours before he hung up.

NEGATIVE FORM

Tambahkan Not setelah Had pada bentuk Affirmative di atas:

FORMULA

Subject + had + not + been + (Verb + ING) + Complement

Contoh:

• I had NOT been waiting for her for an hour before she arrived.
• They had NOT been working on the project all week when the deadline approached.
• She had NOT been studying for the exam for months when she finally took it.
• He had NOT been driving all day when the accident happened.
• We had NOT been talking on the phone for hours before he hung up.

INTERROGATIVE FORM

Rumus yang ada kemudian diacak lagi, pindahkan Had ke bagian depan, sebelum subjek mengikut semua bagian lainnya. Bubuhkan tanda tanya di bagian akhir.

FORMULA

Had + Subject + been + (Verb + ING) + Complement + Question Mark

Contoh:

• HAD I been waiting for her for an hour before she arrived?
• HAD they been working on the project all week when the deadline approached?
• HAD She been studying for the exam for months when she finally took it?
• HAD he been driving all day when the accident happened?
• HAD he been talking on the phone for hours before he hung up?

USING QUESTION WORDS

Tentunya, semua Tense dapat memakai kata-kata tanya. Dengan rumus Interrogative di atas, bubuhkan Question Word pada bagian awal.

Contoh:

• WHEN had I been waiting for her for an hour before she arrived?
• WHERE had they been working on the project all week when the deadline approached?
